There is a hidden world, unnoticed and unknown to all but a few that understand its power. Fewer still are able to harness that power. These are the microbalists. While no more able to see the ubiquitous microscopic world than others, microbalists have an innate intuitive connection to them. They not only sense these billions upon billions of life forms around them and within them, they commune with them and increasingly learn to manipulate them with a magic akin to that of druids’ connection to the macro natural world. This innate magic unveils the secret world to them but microbalists see themselves primarily as scientists seeking the inner reaches of the natural world rather than as users of magic. Some might not accept that magic has anything whatsoever to do with their talents, though all are compelled to marvel at the mysteries of life, not least of which is the life that lives within themselves. A microbalist’s attention is drawn inward as much if not more than the world around her, constantly studying and communing with the billions of lifeforms within, shepherding them toward a stronger, more balanced whole.
Role: Despite her studious nature, a microbalist is a hearty individual who is not hesitant to enter the fray of battle. She is drawn to the microbial populations in all creatures, friend or foe, for with each contact she grows stronger. Her powers focus on the alteration of the target’s bio-chemistry and attacks of disease, poison, and acid. Holding no grudges against race or class, she will not hesitate to join any party that is not at cross-purposes. However, the visceral nature of their powers, the use of bodily fluids, and the fear of disease may make other classes uneasy around a microbalist. She worships no gods and is devoted to no school of magic, understanding that all that is spiritual or mystical is ultimately the physical reality of the microscopic world and the laws that govern it.
