Neuph
Name: Neuph
Symbol: A bell without a clapper
Alignment: Neutral
The god Neuph is the petty deity of silence. All priests of Neuph are Silent Brothers, and swear an oath of silence. Silent Brothers of other orders and religions all pay homage to Neuph as the enforcer of their oaths.
Temples of Neuph are usually found in isolated, quiet places; deep caverns underground, lonely mountaintops and fog-shrouded moors are favored places. The god is depicted as a vaguely elven figure wearing a grey robe, and seems to be neither male nor female. When an avatar or proxy of Neuph appears, all sound within 500 feet is silenced, and all sound within a further 500 feet is dampened making normal speech hard to hear.
Neuph is often invoked by thieves, guerrillas, and others who need to work in silence. Adventurers sometimes call on her aid when stealth would be useful, as do parents of young children when on their last wit from screaming infants.
